Saving Sarah Cain - DivX Version (Normal Quality), iPod/iPhone Version
|
IMDB rating: 4.70 Plot: When Sarah Cain, a self-involved big-city newspaper columnist, travels to Pennsylvania for the funeral of her Amish sister, she soon discovers that she is the legal guardian of her five Amish nieces and nephews. Rather than choose to move to Lancaster County to finish raising them there herself, or let them be separated by the foster care system, Sarah decides to take them with her back to Portland where she believes she can make a new life for them. However, she soon realizes that the modern world has forced them to compromise who they are, and that she has moved them there for all the wrong reasons - a motive which is soon exposed - because secrets can really never be kept secret. In order to find her own redemption, she knows she must make a choice to give them back their lives in Amish Country. And whether she remains part of their lives will have a lot to do with how much she has grown to love them. |

What are some good romantic movies, like The Notebook?
I’m bored-for once-and need something to do tonight. Blockbuster’s in the cards. My faves are Evening, Tuck Everlasting, Saving Sarah Cain, Marie Antoinette, Across the Universe, 27 Dresses, Monster In-Law, Phantom of the Opera, Princess Diaries movies, Bridget Jones, Becoming Jane, Fried Green Tomatoes, The Nanny Diaries, The Notebook, Steel Magnolias, etc. If you have similar taste, suggest a few. Thanks!
Here are my faves - we have similar movie likes so I hope you enjoy them as much as i did:
ANNA AND THE KING: This is the story of Anna Leonowens, the English schoolteacher (Jodie foster) who came to Siam in the 1860s with her son to teach the children of King Mongkut (Yun Chow Fat). She becomes involved in his affairs, from the tragic plight of a young concubine to trying to forge an alliance with Britain to a war with Burma that is orchestrated by Britain. In the meantime, a subtle romance develops between them.
JACK: Because of an unusual aging disorder that has aged him four times faster than a normal human being, a boy enters the fifth grade for the first time with the appearance of a 40-year-old man. Stars Robin Williams, Diane Lane, Bill Cosby, Brian Kerwin and Jennifer Lopez.
WAKING NED DIVINE: When a lottery winner dies of shock, his fellow townsfolk attempt to claim the money. - SO FUNNY!
A FISH CALLED WANDA: A tale of murder, lust, greed, revenge, and seafood. In London, four very different people team up to commit armed robbery, then try to double-cross each other for the loot. Excellent comedy and cast!

VANITY FAIR: The British Empire flowers; exotic India colors English imaginations. Becky Sharp, the orphaned daughter of a painter and a singer, leaves a home for girls to be a governess, armed with pluck, a keen wit, good looks, fluent French, and an eye for social advancement. Society tries its best to keep her from climbing. An episodic narrative follows her for 20 years, through marriage, Napoleonic wars, a child, loyalty to a school friend, the vicissitudes of the family whose daughters she instructed, and attention from a bored marquess who collected her father’s paintings. Honesty tempers her schemes. No aristocrat she, nor bourgeois, just spirited, intelligent, and irrepressible.
SENSE AND SENSIBILITY: When Mr. Dashwood dies, he must leave the bulk of his estate to the son by his first marriage, which leaves his second wife and three daughters (Elinor, Marianne, and Margaret) in straitened circumstances. They are taken in by a kindly cousin, but their lack of fortune affects the marriage-ability of both practical Elinor and romantic Marianne. When Elinor forms an attachment for the wealthy Edward Ferrars, his family disapproves and separates them. And though Mrs. Jennings tries to match the worthy (and rich) Colonel Brandon to her, Marianne finds the dashing and fiery Willoughby more to her taste.
THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING ERNEST: Two young gentlemen (Rupert Everett & Colin Firth) living in 1890s England use the same pseudonym ("Ernest") on the sly, which is fine until they both fall in love with women using that name, which leads to a comedy of mistaken identities
PRIDE AND PREJUDICE: The story is based on Jane Austen’s novel about five sisters - Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty and Lydia Bennet - in Georgian England.
THE HOUSE OF MIRTH: Terence Davies’ The House of Mirth, is a tragic love story set against a background of wealth and social hypocrisy in turn of the century New York. Based on the classic Edith Wharton novel. Gillian Anderson stars as Lily Bart, a ravishing socialite at the height of her success who quickly discovers the precariousness of her position when her beauty and charm starts attracting unwelcome interest and jealousy. Torn between
NOW AND THEN: Four childhood friends (Melanie Griffith, Demi Moore, Rosie O’Donnell and Rita Wilson) gather together to prepare for the birth of Wilson’s baby. While together, they reminisce about when they were kids (Birch, Hoffmann, Ricci and Moore respectively) in 1970.
ENTRAPMENT: Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive. Then again, practice makes perfect. Catherine Zeta-Jones works for an insurance agency that sends her to track down and help capture an art thief, played by Sean Connery.
DOUBLE JEOPARDY: A woman framed for her husband’s murder suspects he is still alive; as she has already been tried for the crime, she can’t be re-prosecuted if she finds and kills him. Stars Tommy Lee Jones, Ashley Judd and Bruce Greenwood.

SECONDHAND LIONS: A coming-of-age story about a shy, young boy sent by his irresponsible mother to spend the summer with his wealthy, eccentric uncles in Texas. Stars Michael Caine and Robert Duvall.
AFTER THE SUNSET: The story of what happens after a master thief achieves his last big score, when the FBI agent who promised he’d capture him is about to do just that. Stars Pierce Brosnan and Woody Harrelson.
